Fighting Over Tunnels Kills 13 Israelis, Dozens of Palestinians

“Israel and Hamas fought their deadliest battles in a nearly 2-week conflict after Israeli infantry attacked a network of tunnels beneath a densely populated Gaza neighborhood on Sunday.

Thirteen Israeli soldiers and about 60 Palestinians were killed in the Gaza City neighborhood of Shajaiyeh, where the predawn attack on tunnels took place, according to Israeli and Palestinian officials. Across Gaza, 96 Palestinians died during the day including the casualties from Shajaiyeh, officials in the territory said.”…

…”Eighteen Israeli soldiers have been killed during the ground assault including the 13 killed on Sunday. Two Israeli civilians have also been killed by rocket and mortar fire, the military said. Israel Radio said 52 wounded soldiers were being treated following the overnight fighting.”…
