Horwath says NDP and Islam share values of social democracy, social justice

Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath accompanied with NDP MPPs Theresa Armstrong and Peggy Sattler visited on October 28, 2016 the Islamic Centre of Southwest Ontario in London, Ont., to celebrate the first ever Islamic Heritage Month in the province. 

On October 6, 2016, Ontario legislature unanimously passed an act officially recognizing October as Islamic Heritage Month in Ontario. The bill was initiated by NDP. 

In her speech at the mosque, Horwath underscored the importance of the efforts to “eradicate the ignorance that leads to hate” towards Muslims and maintained that the News Democratic Party (NDP) and Islam share many values, such as social democracy and social justice.
