Hamas extended warm congratulations to the Palestinian attacker who murdered an IDF soldier while he was asleep on a bus en route from Nazareth Illit to Tel Aviv on Wednesday morning.
Eden Atias, 18, was travelling to his army base from his hometown in Nazareth when a 16-year-old Palestinian youth from Jenin, Hussein Ghawdra stabbed him multiple times in the neck at a stop in the Afula central bus station.
Hamas spokesman, Fawzi Burham described Ghawdra’s actions as heroic and called him a hero on his Facebook page on Wednesday. “Congratulations to the Palestinian West Bank hero who killed an Israeli soldier in Afula this morning.”
“This is a heroic act of resistance showing that all methods of oppression and terror have not and will not succeed in stopping our people from carrying out jihad and resistance,” posted Fawzi Burham according to reporting by the AFP.
Both PM Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon pointed to the continued incitement against Israel perpetuated under the Palestinian Authority. Yaalon stated that “terror carried out by individuals who are not part of organizations is primarily a result of severe incitement in the Palestinian Authority, which even now, while negotiating with us, continues to educate its younger generation to admire terrorists and murder Jews.”
Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon of the Likud had stronger words, stating that “these ongoing talks are deluding both the Israeli public as well as the Palestinians. We must put an end to this obvious collision course.”
