Denmark to slash benefits for asylum seekers in attempt to deter refugees (Guardian via Act! for Canada)

Denmark’s new right-wing government said on Wednesday it would slash benefits for asylum seekers to bring down the number of refugees coming to the country. On Tuesday the Danish government announced it would re-impose border controls to combat illegal immigration and smuggling, another key issue for the DPP. The government said the new measures would be carried out in line with the European Union’s open-border Schengen Agreement.
