Once upon a time, the professors at our universities and the journalists who man our radio and TV stations, knew the difference between freedom and persecution, between persecuting majorities and persecuted minorities. This is no longer the case. If you read the history of Iraq, or, the wider middle east, it comprises a series of wars between Sunni and Shia that were suppressed during a short colonial interlude, that lasted just one generation. Those pre colonial wars have now returned, fueled by advanced weaponry and Internet recruiting for Jihad. Across the Middle East, it is the minorities who have and who are paying the price for these inter Islamic conflicts. The Jews of Israel are still the object of Shia and Sunni hatred, fueled by their under reported cries of “Death to the Jews.” But, they have the State of Israel to defend them.
There are no more Jews in Iraq as most left for Israel in 1948. Those minorities who had no homeland to receive them, are now the object of ISIS’ Jihad. The Yazidi, the various Christian communities of Iraq, the Zoroastrians and Bahai are being killed by ISIS. As you read this email, the Yazidi peoples of Iraq are being raped, enslaved and slaughtered because they refuse to convert to Islam. These people deserve not only our humanitarian support, but also our military support. Those who want to immigrate to Canada must be given special status. They must be brought to the front of the immigration line. And, we must ask for this on their behalf.
I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy Passover and Easter. At the same time, I want to share with you the news that I have been chosen by the Mozuud Board to be their Executive Director.
During this holiday season I welcome you to visit our web site (http://www.mozuud.org/) and our Facebook page. I would also ask that you look at our first petition to save the Yazidi people, and if you agree with our aims, please go to this link to sign the petition:
I implore you to sign this petition to help the Yazidi now.
Once we were slaves in Egypt, now we are free. So it should be for all the Yazidis of Iraq, the birthplace of our father Abraham.
I hope that you all have a most meaningful holiday.
